Our founder, Nancy Poole, was featured in the Women in Business section in the Grand Strand Magazine this fall. She was chosen for being a successful woman in business. This section of the magazine features profiles of some of our area’s most prominent businesswomen. Ms. Poole works very hard every single day being not only our school’s owner and Director but also a full-time educator as well!

Tell us about your company

Strand College of Hair Design was founded because of our belief in quality education and bringing up the standards of the beauty industry. Our goal as staff and educators is to provide the education for our students to become proficient and professional in their chosen careers. Our primary goal is for their professional growth and success.

What is your educational/training background?

I received an AA Psychology from North Greenville College, a BA from Columbia College, MA from Columbia College and attended the Charleston School of Law.

How did you decide on this career track?

I wanted to change the education in the cosmetology industry

What sets you apart from others in your field?

We believe in strong education and developing students professionally and technically to be successful in their chosen career paths.

What is your company’s mission statement?

The mission of Strand College of Hair Design is to provide a quality education in the area of cosmetic arts so that the graduate is able to be successful in their chosen profession. Graduates will be knowledgeable in the methodology and have the practical skills necessary to be licensed by the South Carolina State Board of Cosmetology. Strand College is dedicated to improving the overall standards of our profession through structured education.

What changes/achievements have you made in the past year?

I wrote a Massage Therapy Curriculum and it was approved by the SC Commission on Higher Education. We also started offering a Medical Esthetics Certification.

Our students proudly represented Strand College of Hair Design in June at the Premiere Orlando International Beauty Competition in Orlando, Florida. Our students placed first in Avant-Garde, first and third in Scarily GOREgeous, second in Cirque du Premiere and second in Nailympia. We are very proud of our students’ hard work and dedication.

Tell us about your company’s involvement in the community.

We do fundraisers for SOWW, helped Joy Prom, Homeless Outreach and Toys for Tots. We have also established a memorial scholarship fund in the name of a student who passed away while attending our school—the Brittany Stalvey Memorial Scholarship.
